Open Studio with Catharina Kajander
During the Soil Matters exhibition 4.9. 2020 – 30.11.2020. Visitors are welcome to follow the work in progress of ceramic artist Catharina Kajander. She uses the traditional coiling technique to build large pots with Finnish local red-clay from Somero.
Opening hours:
Tuesday 12 noon –5 p.m. Wednesday, 2–5 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, 12 noon–3 p.m.
Soil Scanning
The Soil Laboratory invites the public to take part in the soil sample collection. Soil samples sent to the laboratory from around Finland will be scanned during the Soil Scanning events.
The visiting geologist Maarit Saresma from the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) will analyse soil samples from different parts of Finland with an XRF analyser. The analysis of the soil samples can be found in the Soil Stories project.
Painting with Soil Design Workshop
The Painting with Soil workshop encourages people to reflect on their personal relationship with soil. In the Painting with Soil Workshop, participants will create their paintings with different soil materials from Finland. The workshop draws on ceramic artist Maarit Mäkelä’s artistic practice and is designed and facilitated by designer Tzuyu Chen.
